Testing for prohibited substances
Several analytical methods have been developed by Eurofins Analytical Services Hungary for the determination of prohibited substances in dietary supplements. Using the methods developed, currently 85 compounds on the Prohibited List of WADA (the World Anti-Doping Agency), important for athletes, can be detected in different dietary supplement matrices. In the case of licensed athletes, application of WADA rules is mandatory. Also a part of the rules is the Prohibited List, which lists substances athletes are prohibited from using.
There are currently more than 270 prohibited substances on the Prohibited List, but because of similar chemical structures and biological effects, the prohibition applies to many other substances.
Tests are performed under accredited conditions, in accordance with the requirements of standard MSZ EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005.
During the accreditation procedure, when validating the methods developed, the limits of quantification (LOQ) were determined, the value of which is typically between 10 and 50 ng/g for components important for the athletes. For the individual components, the limit of quantification is the limit value at which the component to be tested and the other components of the matrix can be distinguished clearly. The limit of quantification of a component to be tested is not uniform, in a specific product it depends on the composition (matrix) of the given product. There are also cases, when a certain fraction of the compound to be tested cannot be determined by the method applied at a certain product composition.
During our tests, for each product analyzed, the determinations are also carried out using spiked samples (containing a known amount of added standard solution), thus verifying the efficiency of the method and the LOQ concentration value of the method applied for each component analyzed by us.
Over the years, the list of components analyzed have been expanded continuously, and it is being expanded currently as well. For each expansion, our methods have been accredited.
In the database, next to the name of the products it is indicated on which version of the protocol the current determination is based on. The lists of components measured at different times and the corresponding accredited LOQs are indicated in the tables below.
Tests are only performed on individual products. If the finished product contains several pills or capsules, only the separate analysis of the individual items is possible. The analysis of composite samples when testing for prohibited substances is not carried out.
The test sample is provided to the laboratory by the partner, and so the representativity of the sample is the responsibility of the partner. Test results only apply to the samples provided to the laboratory.
At the request of the partner, comprehensive testing of batches is also possible in our laboratory. In this case, three samples of the same batch are analyzed, one from the beginning of the batch, one from the middle and one from the end.
Recommendations regarding the consumption of the products tested are not formulated by Eurofins Analytical Services Hungary, providing advice about the use and efficiency is the task of nutritionists and medical professionals.

Test results of the products listed on our website are only revealed at the request of the partner requesting the test, with their written permission, in full compliance with the rules of confidentiality.
