Positive sample for a Hungarian athlete at the European Championships

According to information gathered by Nemzeti Sport (National Sports), a positive doping sample was produced by the sprinter Gábor Pásztor at the European Championships of Athletics last July.

The information was confirmed by Ágnes Tiszeker, head of the Hungarian Anti-Doping Group, adding that the first instance trial had already taken place, and an appeal was submitted by the athlete, so the second instance trial is pending. More was not disclosed by her, because, as she indicated, nothing more can be said about an ongoing case.

The 34-year-old athlete of Ferencváros, living in the United States, did not request the testing of the B-sample, and provided a list of the dietary supplements used by him before the European Championships. He argued that one of these could have been contaminated, resulting in a positive sample, and at the same time he indicated that he had never produced a positive sample before. He declared himself innocent, and appealed against the four-year ban.

Gábor Pásztor participated in the 200 meters at least year’s European Championships, finishing 22nd with a time of 21.60, and thus not making it through to the semifinals.
