Russians produced the largest number of positive tests in 2015

According to the annual report of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Russian athletes produced the largest number of doping cases in world sports in 2015.

At the top of the list, published by WADA, is Russia with 176 cases, second is Italy with 129, and third is India with 117. The leading group also includes France with 84 and Belgium with 67 positive doping samples. Hungary is in 51st place with eight cases.

According to the report, a total of 229 412 samples were tested in WADA accredited laboratories in 2015, and of these, 2522 were positive, corresponding to 1.1 percent. Only two thirds of the cases (1649) were sanctioned.

The number of doping offenses without positive tests – for example, when an athlete does not show up for an inspection or banned substances are found in his baggage – showed a significant increase compared to 2014, because it jumped from 231 to 280.

85 sports were involved in positive cases, most often bodybuilders (270), athletes (242), weightlifters (239), cyclists (200), powerlifters (110) and soccer players (108) were caught.
